Education Program

AUP started Non-Formal Primary Education in more organized way with the financial and technical assistance of BRAC under its Education Support Program since January 2003 at Kachua Upazila under Chandpur District. The program facilitates to cover disadvantaged children who have either been dropped out from their regular schooling before completing the primary education or never been enrolled as a learner in any school. The learners are aged between 8-11 years old and they come mostly from the neglected and poorest families of the community.

Objectives

To supplement national efforts towards building an illiteracy-free society which ultimately helps the poor and to empower themselves to come out of poverty.

We are happy note that another 9 schools had been organized and started from January,2019. Community people indeed now better prepared for their participation and they know the benefits in spending their hard earned money for quality education.

Microfinance Program

AUP  launched its micro-finance program in 2000 in a small village, called Tinchita under Daudkandi Upazila of Cumilla district for the landless, poor and the under-privileged people.

AUP completed 20 years of operation of its microfinance program in 2020 and during the period many clients who started as the poor gradually graduated to micro-entrepreneurs which are a great achievement of its microfinance programme. AUP’s  clients can now be classified into three categories ; these are:

Automation of Microfinance Accounts

 g-Banker Software

Human life and livelihood became more easy and dynamic by using Information Technology.

Like other sectors, Microfinance Sector has also been using Information Technology since many years. Now a day’s even in the very rural Micro finance offices has been using the technology very efficiently. AUP had signed an Agreement with the Grameen Communications in June, 2013 and by this time we have successfully implemented the g-Banker Software (Micro Credit Automation software) in all the  Branches we have the On Line connectivity with  the Head office in Dhaka. .

The Software has the facility to calculate the interest in Decline method as per regulations of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority. Moreover, we can get the MIS and FIS Reports as introduced by PKSF. Now we are more and more transparent in Financial Management and as well as the Group Management.

Housing Loan Program

Housing for all’-is basic human right of the people. A sweet home to live in is a long dream for everyone. Working people after daylong hard work in the fields, factories or other working places come back home tired and vexed need a complete sound sleep. But they often don’t have the opportunity to sleep at night because of the rain, storm and other natural calamities. Even in some small thatched houses more 6/7 people live in an unhygienic and hazardous condition. In such a miserable housing condition Bangladesh Government has taken the right and the great step to arrange loan to build houses for the homeless people on long term loan.

The overall objectives of the Housing Loan Program are:

  • To build house for every homeless people providing long term loan at very low interest;
  • To develop the living condition and make life more comfortable.
  • To live in better health and hygiene condition in the houses.

As a Non-governmental Organization, we have taken the great responsibility of implementation of the Housing Loan Program at the 4 Upazila under the Chandpur District. We have been building the houses for the people since September 2005 and by this time more than 200 houses had been transferred to the beneficiaries and another 142 houses to build for 145  new beneficiaries. During the FY2017-2019 we have built 70 houses and successfully transferred to the beneficiaries and another 35 new houses have been under process and to be completed during the financial year. We have never forgotten responsibilities and must not ever forget our moral obligation to the homeless people.

ENRICH Programme

Association for Under-privileged People (AUP) has achieved the multidimensional social- Development Programme called ENRICH from the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) to be implemented at the Baganbari Union under Matlab (North) Upazila in Chandpur distritrict. Within an area of 15.54 sq. km. under Matlab (North) Upazila in Chandpur district. Implementation of the Program had already been began since January 01, 2018 with a work force of 32 people headed by the Program Coordinator with the Technical and Financial assistance from PKSF.

The overall vision of the program is to work with the poor, to create an enabling environment for them to achieve a humanly dignified living standard and enjoy universal human rights. The poor who join the Program are in fact partners in the process; and the PKSF and AUP work with those people. It is an integrated approach and a paradigm shift. The ENRICH is an endeavor aimed at restoring people’s confidence unto themselves and flowering of their innate abilities to achieve a life of human dignity and freedom. The program facilitates the best utilization of the existing capabilities and resources of the poor households. At the same times it supports enhancement of their capabilities and resource-base in order to enable them to move ahead steadily.

1. Health Care:

The health care component is designed to provide primary health care services to all households in the selected Baganbari union. 9 Health Assistants and 2 Health Officers have been appointed for the health services. The number of Households of the Union had been surveyed khana-4930, population-25666, each household is visited at least once a month to collect health related information about all its members. Elderly people, women with pregnancy and children are given special attention. The Health Officers and the Health assistants arrange static clinic every day, satellite clinic every week, which are attended by qualified experienced doctors. During the period 1083 static clinic, patient-8735 had been treated, 181 Satellite Clinic had been organized where 5769 had been given services, 9 Health camps on Vision and Gynecology had been organized under the program with specialist doctors attending. In these camps where 948 patients given treatment, 42 patients had been given surgical eye operation service. Patients with serious ailments are referred to different public and private hospitals nearby. We have plan in future to organize more Health camps on dental, heart, diabetes and vision. 1906 health.

2. Education:

The ENRICH education component primarily seeks to address the problems of dropout of children from primary school. Under the component, students up to class 2 are helped in these centers to prepare the next day’s tasks. To support those students who doesn’t have facilities at homes. These education centers take special care of the students who are generally slow learners and need extra help to grasp material taught at school.

18 Education Centers with 413 learners had been set up in 19 villages of the union.18 teachers had been locally recruited and they are less than 30 years of age with a minimum of SSC level education. All the teachers are female. The teachers  had been provided with the basic training on teaching as well as on the Curriculum and extra ordinery Curriculur and they are now better prepared to run their Education Centers. All the Teachers are given Refresher’s  training at end of Every month to update their teaching Curriculum and the progress achieved so far.

3. Youth development and job linkage :

A youth development component has been specially designed to help the youth for inculcate human and social values and generate employment opportunities. Efforts are made to create both self-employments and wage or salary based employment opportunities and also to raise awareness against social evils and in favor of ethics. A technical and vocational training policy for the youth has been approved by the program authority.  Trainees have been receiving training in sixteen trades, Such as Electronics devices and electric works, food and beverage preparation and service, apparel, merchandising pattern making, cutting and grading etc. Demand for such training courses is increasing.

AUP had made a survey and made list of a total number of 454 young people of the union of which  male youth 154 and numer of female youth 300. 245 young people had  copleted a a seven days orientation in 3 batches.

4. Campaigns:

Campaigns against social evils such as child marriage dowry, violence against women child labor, trafficking of women and children etc. are major thrust area under ENRICH. The campaigns are conducted using specially prepare posters, booklets songs video clips and group meetings.

The ENRICH Program has other components like Cultivation of highly prospective Agriculture Products, Climate change, ENRICH Home, Sports and Cultural Activities, etc. 

SDL Programe

Many households in rural Bangladesh do not have sufficient cash in hand to upgrade      

sanitation systems,but can afford the costif they are able to spread the cost over time. To    help address this ,DFED has been implementing SDL-OBA Sanitation Microfinance Programme’ project at matlab (South) Under Chandpur Didtrict through AUP, Nayergaon Branch.The project is funded by PKSF and World Bank. Goal of the project is to increase access to hygienic sanitation facilities for low –income households in rural areas of  Bangladesh through commercial sanitation loans. During March 2020 to june 2020 ,29 sanitary latrines has been installed and a total of tk 4.35 lac credit support provide to the 29households.

Skill Development Training Program

Training has been an important and integral part of development strategy of AUP since its inception. Development education and training on Skill Development on agriculture. Fishery, livestock as well as Technical professions lead people to engage them in income generating activities. We motivate and train people for  the balanced utilization of local resources for self employment which contributed much to the social development.

AUP had established its first Training Center in the year 2002 at Tinchita Branch under Daudkandi Upazila where training, workshop and meetings have been arranged; AUP during the year 2007 established another Training Center at Nandanpur Branch and the 2 centers had organized skill development training in 2019 on the following items for the Group Members, Staffs and the Teachers of the organization.
